NHK World-Japan
About NHK World-Japan
NHK World-Japan is the international English-language service of NHK, Japan's public broadcaster. Its output is distinctive within international news: alongside global bulletins it carries an unusual volume of documentary, cultural, science and lifestyle programming about Japan, and its disaster and earthquake coverage is regarded as among the most rigorous anywhere — a direct consequence of NHK's statutory role in Japan's emergency broadcasting system. It is funded by receiving fees paid by Japanese households and operates under the Broadcast Act. The channel offers a genuinely different editorial vantage from the European and American international broadcasters that dominate this category.
